strange sharing problem

I set up a wireless network for a customer yesterday... it was a strange one from the start. When I showed up the customer had tried to set up the network themselves so the problems were numerous but I thought I got them all solved before I left then the customer called today with a new problem. here is the setup... verizon dsl, one pc wired with xp home sp2, one wireless laptop with xp home sp2 both computers have nis 2005. linksys wrtg54g router... Originally neither pc could see eachother on the workgroup even though they were both on the same workgroup and had the c: and shared folders shared. They could however ping eachother. So I figured it was nis and that was part of the problem I set the networking feature of the firewall to accept range 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.200 and the desktop immediately could see the laptop in workgroup (not in network places) the desktop could now also ping the laptop. so I went digging and found that the nis was conflicting with the desktops windows firewall so I set both the pc and laptop to monitor only in windows firewall. That seemed to cure all the ills I was able to acess everything in network places C:'s and shared folders. When the customer called today neither the desktop or the laptop could access the c: of the other but could access the shared folder. When customer tries to access the c: it gives the dreaded "you may not have permission to access this resource" error. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks
