How old is this computer? If it's a few years old, you might have to do a hard drive detection to get the hard drives recognized.
And what OS are you trying to install? If WinXP, make sure you change the first boot device to the CD-ROM drive and set the CD-ROM drive to AUTO in the Standard CMOS Set Up.
