SP2 is such a radical change that it's esssentially a new operating system - and there are a lot of factors in play for a successful install. If you are installing XP clean on a blank drive, it's best to use a slipstreamed CD instead of trying to do it as an upgrade. If you are upgrading an existing install, you must carefully prepare it, spyware, viruses, an outdated bios, or incompatible software can kill the upgrade dead as a doornail.
