I'm not sure about the other two, but WinFS was a new filesystem that M$ was working on. I believe it was mostly to speed up searches. Seems funny that you can search billions of webpages with google in under a second, but it takes minutes to search your own computer. Last I had heard, it was scrapped in order to make their targeted release date.
