That's not an issue, IDE has always been backwards compatible.

Not an issue either. The computer does not stay powered up whenever the drive is physically connected to the power, whether the IDE cable is connected or not. This is only one of 2 things, as I already indicated - the drive is tripping the power supply off line, so it's a bad drive or a bad power supply, period. Is my logic flawed in any way?
