I watched people break into fully patched, firewalled XP machines behind routers in less than a minute at defcon. It was a contest. Linux machines configured by the hackers themselves were only marginally more secure. There were some Linux machines there that no one was able to access. Mine was not one of them. I was unfortunatly on the "wall of shame".
