Just one more thought, in case you haven't tried it.
In the options screen on the DVD try changing the sound choice, usually 2 kinds of digital as well as plain stereo. I would suggest trying stereo if you haven't already.
I don't have Power DVD5 so I don't know what sound options it has but if they can be altered a little experimenting is certainly in order.
