If there is an error though, you're done. When they say configurability, they mean you must configure every aspect of the install. I wouldn't recommend even trying to install Gentoo until you have had around a years experience with Linux and have compiled a kernel before.
I in my case have guiven up gentoo for Yoper and it is very fast it loads faster ther my other o/s, but it has a drawback it is very minimalistic and it occupies only one cd rom
