Dual Channel DDR does make a difference when used on P4 systems, not so much with AMD systems.

Honestly, I think it depends on what you do with the computer and the type of software application you're using. I don't think you can "see" a difference between single channel and dual channel performance in everyday use, but it does show up in benchmarks.
