As much as I hate to admit it, I don't really like this. However, the new socket is most likely going to support some nice new features, such as DDR2. It also appears the new socket is needed for dual-core CPUs.

I do think that today it is near impossible to upgrade a CPU without upgrading your motherboard, mainly due to chipset limitations. Yes, as an AMD enthusiast, I hate to admit that.
