System restore is not used to recover data files. It is for system state files used to boot the OS and keep it running smoothly (like .dll's and other system files). Taken from M$:

"System Restore does not affect your personal data files"

There ya go. Even ASR backups are not made for data... only you can backup data. So System Restore and what not will not bring back deleted files. You need a recovery/undelete app. I would link to a good app but the site looks to be down at the moment. I'll check back l8r.
