I've been trying to set a VPN server up as well and in my router config there are options for PPTP & L2TP/IPSec PassThrough. I have gotten it to work internally but haven't tried it from another computer outside my network yet. I think you need that passthrough option b/c the ports are somewhat dynamic and change/jump around. I have 1723 forwarded as well and places I've read say something about forwarding IP 47, NOT the ip port 47 just ip 47... whatever that means. I guess Cisco routers can do this but not ones for home. But most places I look it says just port 1723.

AH ha, look at the bottom of the M$ article, you must enable IP protocol 47 (GRE). I think that is the key why we can't do this. Sorry 4 the long post, but together we will find the answer
