With that kind of money I'd buy a pretty nicely configured IBM thinkpad T series laptop. However, if you're into gaming I'd look elsewhere (e.g. Dell, Alienware). Also make sure to check out your college's IT website. Most likely they will have discount with some major vendors that you can apply when you order your laptop.
