If you're looking at 1Ghz or more, you might want to consider investing in a good quality board and AMD chip. Intel isn't going to reduce their PIII chips by much anymore as they try to sway people towards the P4 (which IMHO, isn't worth it until SDRAM and DDR motherboards). I can currently build a 1.3Ghz P4 for about $50 more than a 1Ghz PIII. Since you are limited to 1Ghz with a current CPU upgrade, you may be better of to spend a couple bucks more to get the AMD and extend your upgrade life. Use the old board and processor and whatever else is lying around and put together a second system.
