The fan is EXACTLY centered yes. However you should be careful when doing this and make sure that your going to have enough room for the power supply and the 120mm. Mine is VERY close. As far as measuring goes, I just got the center buy measuring length and width. From there I used a compass and a DRY ERASE marker to draw the circle for the hole. Pretty simple really. I drew the circle on the outside of the case... which is why I used a dry erase marker. If you do this just be careful to not wipe the marker off with your hand while cutting. I wouldn't try to cut from the INSIDE OUT as you will most likely not beable to do things very well with the drive cage getting in the way, which is also rivetted in my case.
The 120mm in the front is a fine idea. But just because 120mm is bigger doesn't mean it's quieter, although that is the idea. With the fan controllers I'm sure you'll beable to keep everything good an quiet for you. You could also get something from around the house that is about the same size as the 120mm and just eyeball it. I had a peice of tupperware that is almost an EXACT match as far as size goes. That little thing is now in my collection of "pc make-over" toys.
Definately strip your case down. You don't want any stray chunks of metal from the cutting to get cought on your mobo. You might find yourself having a very bad day.
Me, I'm all about performance. I don't really care about the sound too much, though my computer right now DOES sound like a turbine when it kicks on. Vantec Tornadoes don't mess around and I have 2 of them inside my case both going FULL THROTTLE.
