Freezing could be a number of things. Your CPU as you mentioned. But it could also be your video card that is overheating, either the GPU or the RAM. Are you overclocking anything?..if so, stop. You may also have an undervoltage problem which means you need a better PSU.

What are your specs? Knowing your specs will help others diagnose the problem.
