If your getting a blank screen and looks like your monitor can't handle the resolution, press ctrl+alt backspace. This should kill the XServer and you will fall back to text mode.

Run Xconfigurator again. Make sure to test your configuration first. If you are not prompted by Xconfigurator to test the new configuration don't say yes when it ask if you wan't to start up the GUI when booting.

You can always start up the gui in text mode by type startx.
