Wireless keyboard lockup at login
Hi.,
I’m having problems with wireless keyboard since I upgraded my mobo. I must stress that at all times a wired keyboard and mouse worked, and continue to work.
I had a OEM PS/2 wireless keyboard and mouse with ORTEK drivers, and after the upgrade (from KT7A to A7V600-X) I found it worked the first time I connected it, then it became sporadic, then not at all no matter what I tried.
The symptoms were:
- If I held DEL the keyboard worked fine in the BIOS menu.
- On the windows login screen, if I hit return (to log in), both keyboard and mouse locked up. Then I had to reset/restart.
- On the windows log in screen, if I logged in using just the mouse (which worked) then:
o Everything worked ok using just the mouse.
o If I checked the Device Manager, no keyboard was listed.
o The moment I touched the keyboard, both the keyboard and mouse would lock up. From what I could tell (by running apps in the background while touching the keyboard), the cpu/OS were still running fine.
So I dug about on the internet, upgraded to the latest BIOS (now running a7v6x009.awd), changed the batteries and no difference.
Finally I thought (somewhat unconvinced) that the wireless keyboard was broken, so I went out and bought a Belkin wireless keyboard and mouse. I had a similar but different problem. This time:
- The keyboard worked again getting into and round the BIOS menu.
- After a cold start, at the login screen, using the keyboard again caused the mouse and keyboard to lock up.
- After a reset, using the keyboard at the login screen everything worked fine!
Until today (two days after discarding the box and receipt), when after leaving my PC on for a few days, the Belkin keyboard and mouse don’t work no matter what I do. It seems the receiver has died, as I get no LED activity when I hit the ‘Connect’ button.
Can anyone suggest what on earth is happening here? Today I went out and bought two PS/2 extension leads. Please don’t let me be defeated!
