Replacing Laptop hinges

Hello:

I was asked by someone if it is possible to replace laptop hinges? I don't have much information other than: It's a Compaq and they should've gotten a better warranty! I know laptops are parted out on E-bey (an online chop-shop!). If this issue is model specific (some models can be fixed, but other models can not)
I will come up with more pertinant information. Mostly this person is looking for options, and trying to find the most cost effective solution.

thanks

klutz
