rumors and bets ...

I just put some money down, well actually a case of beer to be bought by the loser, on a tech rumor.

I say Apple will not be releasing an iPad with a smaller screen this fall.

That rumor seems a lot like the one about the mini-iPhone, based on the Nano, that was used to sell fakes in Bangkok before the whole scam collapsed.
I'm not impressed that analyst are saying the same thing either, they were also on board with the Nano iPhone.

I'm thinking there's someone out there planning on releasing a lot of fakes in a hurry, before the buying public gets wise, and running away with the cash.

I'm also thinking I won't have to buy beer for the last outdoor bash before cold weather sets in.

Logically speaking, I don't think there's any reason for apple to make a minified version of the iPad. The idea was to have a tablet-sized portable device. Shrinking the darn thing would essentially get you an iPhone or iTouch. Also, adding another similar device to the market would add confusion...and apple likes to keep things simple.

So, I'm thinking you may be getting some free beer this fall...

I saw a funny joke about Apple re-branding the iPod Touch as an "iPad Nano", and consequently raising the price to that of an iPad, floating around the web a few months ago. I can't remember where I saw it, but it was pretty hilarious.

I don't see any reason either for making the screen smaller.

Are there really many folks who need a 4gig, six core processor? Oh excuse me, 12 core proccessor?

But I think Pam's gonna win this one.

I want an iPad eventually but will wait until it can multi-task. You know how Apple is, you never buy the first version of anything because in a year or two you will be pissed that the second or third versions are much better.

I had to replace an aging laptop (mainly for email and surfing) and opted to go with an ipad. The choice between about 750cad for a fast starting surfing machine vs a budget laptop was a no-brainer to me.... A budget laptop with woeful performance when a hog of an OS and associated paraphernalia of antivirus/antispyware etc.etc. Vs a machine that gives me ridiculous battery life and being on nearly all the time .. I went for the iPad. I wouldn't consider myself an Apple fanboy ... It's an ok product and does what it's supposed to .. For the most part (yes Safari crashes ...yes apps crash .... And yes safari is a very middle of the road browser ... Especially after being addicted to tabs).

Of course, i know the perils of being a v.1 adopted, but given the significant milestones Apple has thru subsequent generations, i figure i might as well start somewhere.... maybe skip every alternate version.

I love ebooks .. But i find myself using the kindle app more than iBooks ... Books are frequently pricier on iBook.

Several iPad owners have told me that they'll sell their first generation iPads to help finance the new one next year .
Their major complaint?
They'll be iPadless for a few weeks.

Just like the fanboys I saw line up for the iPhone 4 .. most of them, while waiting in line for the I4 were surfing on their Iphone 3GS' .. I have no idea about their need to carry around the latest product from Apple, especially when all that has changed is the aesthetics.

Don't you know that aesthetics are just as important as function? Get with it man and buy yourself a black turtleneck sweater while you are at it. You are obviously not a fashionable Apple hipster.

If Apple comes with a smaller version of the iPad I'll quit drinking Kool-aid.

I love ebooks
My ebook reader (Bookeen Cybook) means that I can, when necessary, tote around close to 2000 books as needed.
I don't need that many but with sd cards used to store text I have no problem switching between libraries for various purposes, the reader itself stores reference works ( like dictionaries) so 3, at the moment, SD cards store libraries for various uses.

Prediction...
Apple will be great short if anything ever happens to Jobs, to the tune of a 2-3 bagger. There is nobody else at that company with his vision.
