Any Ideas????
I've gotten much better with my I-Pod touch 4th gen. yet I do have one consistent glitch I can't figure out. Each time I get a notice for new version of software, I of course want to upgrade, but each and every time I do my I-pod goes into lock down and then I have to restore and lose everything. Now of course I have all the apps backed up in my library and can recover, but this shouldn't be happening, should It?

No it shouldn't, full restores are not part of an upgrade.
Now what, exactly, do you mean by "lock down" and how have you setup the passcode on your Touch.

Yes the Pass code has been set. What I mean by lock down is that, once it syncs and then starts to upload the new info a screen pops up on the I-pod with the Itunes logo and a pic of a USB connector as if the I-pod needs to be plugged into the computer, which it is, but now the computer doesn't recognize the connection. It will sit like this for ever literally until you force it into restore, not to mention in the itunes screen when you unplug the I-pod and then plug it back up a pop up says something to the effect that that the I-pod must be restored, do you want to restore. Problem then is you have to force it into restore by holding the buttons down and the whole process. So now when it says new software available I say no, because it's so da-- aggravating to go back and load everything from the library.

There's always some risk with updates, that's why you get the warning screen if you have any purchases that haven't been transferred to iTunes yet (same deal if you have any rentals), but a wipe out of everything every time isn't normal.
Where's your nearest Apple store? |

I live in the middle of nowhere, the closest Apple store is in Atlanta, 4hrs away. Oh well I'll just wait and update about once every 6months i don't have to deal with the lock down and reload very often. thanks

Let me count the ways...
Let me count the ways I hate my IPOD software, #1- If I ever try to update I get the message "unexpected error can not update IPOD" #2- next thing is that the IPOD won't do anything because I get the message " you must set Ipod to recovery mode" well when I click OK the recover then I get the Message " Error 1604 IPOD cannot be reset to factory settings" #3- Now all I can do is look at my IPOD screen that shows the itunes with a pic of a USB connector pointing at the itunes. I get really tired of calling Apple support and I'm really probably just venting severe anger. But if anyone has any idea what's going on with my IPOD I would really appreciate any tidbit of info. If not I'll call Apple again tomorrow. Thanks for letting me vent.
