iTunes/iPod/Windows 7 conflict
 

I have a strange issue that apparently others have copntinually had, without solution. I've checked the knowledge base at MS. MS points to Apple and the reverse. I've tried all the suggestions found there, but no joy.

I have a Gen. 6 iPod Nano and the problem is in the second machine in my sig. When I originally acquired the iPod I had no problems with loading and syncing in the second, top machine in my sig using an older version of iTunes about 3 years ago. I now primarily use the other (bottom one) machine with the SSD and I've never been able to get it to continue recognition of the iPod when I connect it. Everything seems fine when initially connected but goes to hell when i try to do anything. I updated to the latest version of iTunes and the problems continued even after uninstalling, cleaning the registry and machine, and reinstalling. It will most times recognize the iPod when I connect it but the minute I select it, the iPod disappears in iTunes and from the system tray. Devices and Printers will show the iPod but with the yellow triangle and it doesn't show up at all in Device Manager. I've had the OS 'correct' the software from Devices and Printers but to no avail. It points to a software problem.

I've tried updating the iPod software and I've done a couple of wipes and restored it, all to no avail. Everything seems to point to a fault in the iPod. Yet, when I connect the iPod to the older machine and to a new laptop, everything works as designed. That points to some sort of incompatibility issue in the OS of this machine. My solution has been to just use the laptop (Windows 7, 64 bit) for syncing but the problem seems a correctable one which I'd like to do.

No big issue since I have a solution but does anyone have any suggestions? Doesn't seem necessary to go to an Apple store some 40 miles away and since the iPod seems to work everywhere except on my main machine, I don't think it's an Apple problem. Thoughts?

(Did I say that I hate Apple and iTunes?)

Have seen this issue several times..
1st. Now my question to you, how do you connect? Using wireless Option or Cable? If you are using Wireless Option then just hook it up to cable and DISABLE Wireless Option.

Does the BATTERY Loading sign shows that the BATTERY is loading when you Plug it in?

2nd. If you Connect by Cable and still it doesn't work, the Primary change the CABLE! and the USB PORT.!

BTW ITunes 11 is the worst I tunes there ever was, Download iTunes 10.6.7 64Bt edition, this one is compatible with your iPod

Uninstall the old ITunes Versions. Now there are some hidden Directories in
YOUR USERNAME\AppDATA\Roaming\Apple Computer. Make a Backup of this folder and then REMOVE the FOLDER.NOTE: This folder is HIDDEN by Default

3. If it still don't work then take USB HUB one with extern POWERSUPPLY and connect it to the PC and then CONNECT the iPod to the HUB.. it seems to me that the iPod does not get enough Power.

Try those and if it works OK, if not then your COMPUTER HAS A PROBLEM not the iPOT.

Yes, it does. But then it disappears if I select the iPod for any activity.

I've tried the two ports that are handy, a USB 3.0 and a 2.0. I'll try a couple of others on the back of the machine.

l have to get one of these as I don't have one.

OK so far so good.. now we narrowing down the problem to the laptop.. I don't think that is the Hardware, but a DEAD Driver which hasn't been take care of.. with this I mean a USB driver or the second possibility is Windows ACTION CENTER got the hand on your Device..

Have you ever seen the Action Center coming up while you where connecting the iPod Nano? What did you do? Did you close it? May I be able to get some Picture so you can see what I mean I have several iPhone which are connecting to my computers. And it has happen last night that a TDK two week old USB stick wasn't recognized on my Windows Partition where I just used it a day before..it was blinking for say about 5 Second and then Jumping out... Since this Laptop is a MAC so and its dual Booting, I booted into the MAC. And surely the TDK USB was there shown and also Working..

Booted Back into Windows took another USB Stick and this showed up and worked instantly..

Now I disconnected that one and inserted the one which makes Problems.. then opened DEVICE MANAGER and there it was: Yellow Flagged.. The driver couldn't be loaded..

Removed the Failing Driver clicked on the Name of the Computer in Device Manager, Right clicked and SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES. It brought the driver back again and also it was Yellow Flagged..

Took out the CDROM of the MAC Drivers for Windows inserted it and clicked on the Driver and selected Update Drivers.. within a few Seconds everything worked..

So look in Action Center what it is supposed to do when you connect your iPod Nano.. the bug will be there somehow..

Otherwise Remove all USB Drivers and then reinstall them in device Manager this will cure it..
