Do I need virus, antispam protection for Macbook?

I just got a new Macbook Air, and was curious what antispam, antivirus, antimalware programs you guys suggest I get?

Also, because it is an SSD, I don't need to setup it to defrag the hard drive, correct?

Finally, I know there are some freeware programs out there that actually can locate your computer if it gets stolen. I remember reading about one in a computer magazine last month, but totally forgot the name of it. It basically will locate your laptop, I think take a pic of the thief, and some other stuff as well. Any idea what this program is called? It was free I know that.

Basically just looking for advice on what protection programs I need to keep my computer clean.

thanks guys

Mac's need anti-malware software protection now. This wasn't the case a few years ago. There is some bad stuff out there although not as much as there is for Windows computers.

You never want to defrag a SSD. SSD's have a limited life which defragging would shorten. They also don't need to be defragged since they are incredibly fast.

Do I need anything beyond an antirivus? Any suggestions for a good one to get that is simple and can do its magic in the background? Also, I have been a big fan of MalwareBytes. Do you think I should get this as well for my macbook air?

Thanks for the help!

I believe Malwarebytes is a Windows-only product. You need something that's made for MacOS.

Reading the reviews that Pam linked, I'd probably go with BitDefender.
