I have free website space from my cable provider and I am finally interested in putting up a basic web page. What I am looking at is a page with a little about me and my interests and a page where my out of state relatives can DL pics and short vids of my daughter. I have absolutely no experience with HTML and no real desire to learn alot about it.

My question is.....Is there a program out there for guys like me that is basically drag and drop, point and click, simple?

If you're just looking to post family pics, I highly recommend "Gallery." It's a freeware and can be obtained from gallery.sourceforge.net I uploaded my graduation pictures with that.

The installation can be a bit confusing but you can easily find someone to do it for you (I can).

Another way is to install a forum on your site. I recommend Invision or phpBB. With this, you can have your own mini-forum where friends and family can post messages & upload images.

Setup is usually easy and straightforward.

If you have the money, the most elementary one would be MS Frontpage 2003. It is pretty simple, but as you get more and more into it, it is a limiting factor - it can only do so much. Besides that, I hear there is a Pagemaker by Mozilla - I would google that (sry - my internet's not working well so couldn't google it for ya).

Hope that helps,

If you are going to use a forum on your site the cable provider would have to support php/asp etc. and if its free I would doubt it, plus how much space do you get? Videos can take up a lot of space.

I would only post short 10-20 second clips. I'm going to check with Roadrunner today to find out the details on how much space and such. I don't want to do anything real fancy, just a basic page. What I was wondering is whether there is a program out there that has templates or some such where I can just cut and paste text and images and, voila, I have a simple web page.

Front page. If you don't want to shell out the cash you can look for a free website builder but your better off signing up for a free web site service. I.e. tripod.com angelfire.com brinkster.com.

They all give you the same 10 mb your get from the cable company (brinkster gives 30) but you'll have to put up with an ad somehwere along the lines (brinkster is no longer ad-free).

The plus side is that those services like tripod.com and angelfire.com come equipped with online control pannels and web site builders. Dont have to worry about downloading anything- just sign up and put up with the advertisement on your pages: and in return you get basic tools designed to help people without any html experience.
