I've heard it depends what you want to use it for, for pictures it would probably be OK, but writing would probably be quite bad. If I ever get the s-video on my Geforce plugged into the TV I can tell you.

The TV can be good for viewing pictures, watching movies, and playing games but nothing will be as sharp as it is on the monitor. A TV is worthless for text and internet browsing. An HDTV may be an exception, however. They have much higher resolution at 1020x720 I belive as opposed to 480x something on a regular TV.

yer i have my Tv connected to my PC and it is only really good enough for pictures and movies... no good for internet and online chats (msn, yahoo etc.) but when i have it activated it does screw up your desktop layout if you start moving windows round on your TV display
The TV will be able to display 800x600 at most, but not in a good quality, and it will be interlaced. It will look very unsharp and as said, is only good for movies and pictures.

The best you'll get from any television is 525 lines (525 in most of Europe and 425 in N. America). And that depends on the inputs used - component video will give you the most (525 or 425 depending), s-video about 20% below that and composite video about 40% below that.
So basically a TV is not a good choice as as second monitor. To watch a video it's fine, but as a monitor, no.

What about with a DVI connection? I thought you could go higher with that.

If it's a HD-capable monitor. You'll still only get 700ish lines.
