Ipods etc.

On ebay there are listings of Ipods, Nomad Jukeboxes etc. etc. The notebook HDD based Mp3 players.
They're advertised with upgrades from 30gb to 60gb. Is it possible to drop in a new HDD into these things, or is it a special type, and do they need formatting?

Any Ideas?

certainly with iPods you cant just 'drop one in' i imagine in theory it would work but i doubt u are able to get to the hard drive to remove it in the first place. (unless u want to slice it up)

there are a lot of scams w/ selling iPods on ebay, a lot of them are selling you a link but dont make that very clear.. if you want info on if that sort of thing is possible for anything, i'd look on google.

Yeah, be careful. A 60-gig ipod is impossible as the firmware will not see the drive (it won't even address the 40-gig it can handle).

I think when he says 30 and 60 gig models he is reffering to the Creative Nomads. Yes, Nomads do come in 60GB versions but be careful on Ebay.

Not ipods specifically, but a guy is advertising a 30gb "upgraded" to 60gb. The only link i've seen was being offered free, but it certainly was suspect./ It said you had to buy a $50 product and you would be put on a list. You move up for every person that buys the product, and an ipod is given away with every four product sales, unless you are directly responsible for 4 referals at which point it was sent to youy straight away. Of course if it is legitimate, why arent they selling the ipods, and why does it take 4 ppl?
To those out there...proceed with caution!

yea thats exactly the scam that i was reffering to that usually occurs with iPods... the idea is simply to get more people buying their products.. and then you get put on a list.. and to get to the top (where u get the free gift, eg iPod) you have to refer as many people as possible to get the iPod.. however the people selling it get good feedback because the people have *just* been put in the line.. so they think it wont take long before they get an ipod (since feedback must be left pretty quickly after sale) but in reality the chances of ever getting one are very slim. (thats if anyone really ever gets them)
so on ebay, you are paying for a link, you then have to go and buy something (eg a CD-RW) and thennn you get put in line to 'get an ipod' (or whatever 'gift' you chose.
i hate people selling links on ebay, i think they should be banned.
i also hate pyramid schemes like this.
