Im just building a new pc for my friend and have never come across Sata harddrives before.
Motherboard is a K7N2 Delta.
200 Gb Maxtor Sata Hardrive.
Installed everything switched on and pressed ctrl-f to set up array.Choose auto.
Re-boot.
Ran again pressed F6 to install promise drivers as per instructions. But it doesnt see the harddrive?.Says no mass storage device installed?.
The harddrive has the orange lead from hd to mboard.
There are 2 types of power supplys, do they both need connecting?.
Or have i missed something else?.Ive tried booting form xp disk and i get an error no hd installed?.

The way I understand how it works, only 1 power cable should be plugged in, DO NOT use both, then off your motherboard cd you copy the drivers for SATA onto a floppy, then when the XP install asks you put the floppy in and press F6, is this what you did? Is the drive recognised in the BIOS? If you are not using RAID, have you turned it off in the BIOS?

So which type of power supply should be on?.
The new type or the same as ide hd's and cd rom's?.
Do i have to turn raid off?.Will it be set to on as default?.

You can use either power connector, although I would recomend using the SATA one so I have a extra molex connector it won't make a difference. You can use either.

Unless you are using RAID (with only 1 drive you are not) it should be turned off, I think, I am not sure what the default are a mobo is since I have never used RAID.
