Illegal Operation-HP Lazer Jet 4050

Have a new HP LazerJet 4050 Printer..It works fine for a while. Then when you try to print it will start giving an illegal operation. We are running win 98. I have updated the drivers several times. But that still does not help. You can un-install and re-install the drivers that came with it and it will work for a while. Has anyone had this problem or know of a fix...Thanks in advance

We need more details please. "Illegal Operation" covers a lot of stuff - and we need exactly what it says and what you are doing when it happens.

If u copy the exact error message to this thread i'll look in the 4050 database at work in the morning for the error.
Chances are there is something conflicting with the drivers.
Probably a previous driver u installed.
Like glc said tell us the exact error message and we can help you.

Thanks Guys...Here is what it says

Spool 32 caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL 32.DLL at 0187:bff7b9a6.

The error occurs in various applications..Excel, OutLook Express, an internet based system..once it happens the program freezes and the printer will not work in any other application until the computer is restarted.

not a printer problem, much rather a driver conflict.
the problem is obviously in the spooling so the queing of the print outs.
so it's not the printer it's windows.
howmany ram have you got on the computer.
it might very well be a memory error.
Have you check with technet?

Thanks, we are trying your suggestion...we have 256 meg ram

600 mhz 20 gig hard drive..no brand we built it

Sorry forgot to mention...have never had any problems with 3 other printers on this system till we bought this HP Lazerjet 4050...Got it because it prints , I think about 22 wpm.. So reports are 160 pages...thanks

What other printers have you had on the system?
did you deinstall the drivers before installing the 4050 ones?
Did you install the 4050 drivers?

The kernel error normally means there is some software conflict with the spooling program.
so check for old drivers that might be conflicting
if that isn't the problem well do ctrl-alt-del and look in the processes if there is another printerspooling program running maybe from one of the older printers.
If nothing works i'm afraid reinstalling would be the only option.

U can try clicking on details it'll give you a couple of adresses, I have no idea how to do this but you should c what other programs use these adresses.
