I removed my 2nd IDE hard disc 80 gig with a 120 ide seagate barracuda. Tried to boot up and my System drive SATA Seagate Barracuda comes up with this error "Boot Failure from Previous Device" I have tried almost everything for 2 days to get it up and running. Setting it as 1st boot, etc. checked cabling.

I`m having a bit of a nightmare with this. Any help greatly appreciated!

Have you tried resetting the CMOS?

Was the boot sector on the 2nd IDE?

Were you running more that 1 OS?

I'm not going to reset the cmos just yet guys. I'm not running a dual boot system as well. I think I may have a way to fix it. As I can boot from CD, I am going to attempt to get the PC working from last good configuration, by pressing F8 on startup. If that doesn't work then I will attempt to use the Win xp CD recovery console and try to repair my current installation. As I have been without a computer at home for 4 days now, I`ve checked on the net and have spoken to Seagate technology, and have come to the conclusion that my boot record for the Sata drive has become corrupt.

1. I will use recovery console 1st and attempt to copy system files.
2. If that doesn't work I will use a bootable floppy disk next.

Wish me luck!

thanks for replys so far.

Aye you are on the right track now. It may require a /fixmbr or somthing of that nature.

I'm leaving work now, but I'm going to try that when I get home. Thanks! I will let you know how and get on in the morning for work.

Well, I have fixed it. Recovery console was useless. Used fixmbr, didn't work. Fixboot said it was an invalid drive. In end i formatted a new IDE drive put windows on that and I have full access to all the files on the Sata drive. Once I have backed everything up, I will format the drive, but MSI forums think the drive will fail again. I've only had it since Feb this year. Thanks for everyone's help :)
