Emrpex (Fry's) 8xDVD+/-RW speed setting?

Bought a Emprex ( BTC brand?) 8x dvd+/- rw a few weeks ago and for some reason I cannot get it to burn a dvd in less than 50 minutes. Im using dvd-r's as they seem to be most compatable. I place it on 4x and no luck. I did one burn at 2x and it took same time. Media is 4x and tested on a Sony machine w/same software (dvd decrypter; dvd shrink; nero 5.5.10) Is there some setting I must manually do? I have done the latest firmware updates also. Maybe remove completely and re-install? Im running this on a Dell p4 2.8 w/512 DDR 3200 ram. No clue here, any and all suggestions please...thanks

Hm. First I'd check that DMA is enabled. Go into device manager, double click on the IDE channel that your DVD burner is connected to, and look if the transfer mode is set to DMA. If not, set it to DMA and reboot.

Its set on the secondary IDE channel and is on the PIO setting and I cant seem to change...any other ideas?

What you can try is to remove the burner from device manager and reboot.
You need to have it on DMA. On another forum someone had the same problem and PIO mode was the problem. He changed it to DMA and problem was solved.

If you can't change it off of PIO, you need to update your motherboard chipset drivers.

Sounds like the lesser of the two evils is your RJ's way...I will try that this week and see if it works...(hope so) I have no idea how to update chipset stuff...
