A dual drive can do DVD+R and DVD-R - two forms of recording DVDs.

Well it all depends on how much you want to spend if you have the mulah then splash out a bit on a Tech Europe EuroBase DVR-4001 (what i have) very fast and reliable slighty expensive at £210 otherwise i would strongly suggest going with LG reliable and for only £90 - £120 aint bad can be some slight compatibility problems with win2000 and doesnt fit in some cases so you might want to check that first hope this helps you mate

As for the DVD Dual drives, I would get them since they tend to be in the same price range as the non-dual ones. I think I would most highly recommend Sony, then LG and Lite-On.
Hope that helps,

That's really up to you. I prefer to have 2 optical drives in the even that I need to copy a disc. Or, let's say I have a game that I really like to play and I want to keep it in the main optical drive so I don't have to keep taking it in and out of the drive everytime i want to listen to an audio CD or watch a DVD movie.

both if you want to burn DVD's on the fly. By "dual drive" do you mean "dual layer" or what Kram described? Dual layers are new, they can hold almost twice as much data on one DVD.
