I'm having the following problem, and everybody says they can help, but nothing is working...
My screen freezes. Always while either A)scrolling with center mouse wheel or B) resizing window. Requires a hard reboot (Ctrl-alt-delete has no effect). It only seems to happen while working in Microsoft programs (Word, IE5.5, Excel, OE) - never while on a game. Using Win98SE, recently updated graphics card (NVidia GeForce2 GTS) driver and MS Windows update to no effect. Running 98SE on Athlon 1Ghz with 128Mpc133. ASUS A7V-Socket A. Not overclocked. Recently ran Norton System Doctor and defrag. No major errors - all fixed. When this system runs, it runs great.
As for what I have done so far... uninstalled/reinstalled just about every program on system including Windows (Had ME, but wasn't worth the trouble). Reformatted HD. New Micron RAM installed. Followed NVidia's suggestions re the mouse pointer and graphics settings (and just changed graphics hardware acceleration one "notch" lower). Experimented with shutting down and/or updating various programs while on the internet and not(especially McAfee anti-virus, Norton System Doc, ZoneAlarm and WinFax10). Got a cable modem.
Whew. Any help appreciated.

Get rid of the McAfee and the Norton stuff. Use InoclulateIT PE antivirus and NO utilities. Zone Alarm is fine.
