View Full Version : Free ipods...?

referrer link removed

A couple of friends have used it..thought it was a fake at first but some said it worked.

I guess it looks like it could work..I guess not impossible that they'd generate enough ad revenue to pay for the ipods themselves(browsed the faqs and it says they might even be refurbs)

I'm just wondering whether I should waste my time trying, a free ipod is never a bad thing :p

Allright, this is the internet, so what's the catch?

icallmedan
07-01-2004, 10:38 PM
you have to sign up for an "online offer" ...probably costing you $250...lol...

**edit
I just tested it out.....you have to refer 5 friends, they must all complete an offer, and you must complete and offer, and supposedly you will get an ipod....if anyone else is going to do this let me know through pm, so i can refer you, so ill see if it works.

they sell your information, at least thats how it looks to me.

They sell your info to advertisers, you refer 5 more people whos info is also sold, then they they give you your "free" ipod, which they probly got at a disccounted price

Something tells me that SPAM or just excessive spyware will follow this. I'm upping my AntiVirus to scan emails, and I'm going to insert and email that I barely use ;) . I'll let you know, icallmedan, if I should decide to do it, so you can refer me.

Ive done similar programs for a retail store I worked in. Companies do this frequently with retailers, and occasionally with the public. With retailers its usually sell X amount and with the public its usually referals.

Details like information selling are always different, but large well known companies always shipped the merchandise they owed. Since thats just a website... I wouldnt know but I wouldnt bother unless half my block was already shipped free ipods.

I really need to do something else to increase the amount of SPAM I am getting.

Wait, of the friends who tried, about what percentage of them worked? I want to make sure it would be as probably as possible :)

Thanks,

wait...let me see if I got this right, to get it you need 5 friend to also do sign up and do what they ask, but they cant do what they ask unless they find 5 more people but then those people need to find 5 more people and it would continue for ever so basicly it would be impossible to get the ipod.

anyone elseh ave thoughts on this? legit? worth the trouble?

it all sounds like BS to me... too good to be true, just gonna spam your e-mail and your probly gonna have alot of spyware also, in my opinnion definatly not worth it!

jimmyrules712
07-04-2004, 09:37 AM
not worried about that, im using mozilla and that blocks most spyware, and the email addy id give them would be the one i always give buisnesses and websites, so spam isnt an issue

Me neither...I'm under a pretty good barrier from TrendMicro. Anyone interested in doing it - I'll be trying to see the legitamacy of this soon, if anyone wants to PM me thier "email addresses" :)

kram

WhatsThisBoxFor?
07-04-2004, 10:52 AM
Can't you just make some fake email addresses and use them as referals? If you could get it in the UK I would make a few fake hotmail and yahoo accounts.

jimmyrules712
07-04-2004, 11:46 AM
the 5 people you refer have to all complete the requirments too, so they have to be legit email addys.

however i did use 4 of my own old email addys, and just completed the offers myself 4 times.

well see if this works or not

WhatsThisBoxFor?
07-04-2004, 11:50 AM
Then you make enough email addresses for that, 31 email addresses to be right I think. Wouldn't that work, although it's probably against the terms and conditions.

I just went on ebay, typed up "Free iPods" and surely enough, someone was "willing" to sell that "information" for a price...talk about capitalism ;) . Seems like I'd need to get a few email addresses. All you would need, if I see correct, is six addresses - all of them does the offer, but one recruits the other five.

kram

jimmyrules712
07-05-2004, 01:24 PM
yeah ll u need is 6, you dont need to supply 5 email addys for each of your 5 referalls. you just have to make ur 5 referalls complete 1 offer, and ur set.

speeddude2000
07-05-2004, 01:37 PM
erm....i just bought an ipod...lol but it wasnt for me. i might try this out anyways....hold on while i make a yahoo account.

any1 wanna try this with me, email me: but do NOT write this as the referral email: speeddude2000 @ netscape . net. email me, or IM me on AIM(sn:speeddude2000) and i will tell u the fake account email.

07-05-2004, 03:51 PM
ok, I signed up and completed an offer, who's in this with me??? I've made up five emails, but I don't know if that will work, it looks like the offers require a credit card. Email me @ Head7620@hotmail.com and lets get this goin!!

guys if anyone wants 2 do this with me, PM me or somethin. thanks

we need 4 more people...anyone else interested? Just PM me.

speeddude2000
07-05-2004, 04:40 PM
actually, from the way i understand it, you dont have 2 refer.

EDIT: yes....you do. i need a list of 5 emails(that arent used so i basically need 5 people 2 give me 1 email each but make it will get a lot of spam. after this works, ill help give u an email, and well get everyone an ipod. ;)

so...any takers?

emails:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

07-05-2004, 04:47 PM
ok, I entered you fake email and got this:

Your referrals have been sent! However, the following email addresses have been rejected by our system because someone has already referred them:

R_pratt1277@yahoo.com

You will be redirected in 10 seconds to complete your requirements! If you aren't automatically redirected, please click here!

So I don't know

07-05-2004, 05:00 PM
Yep I jsut went to check my fake yahoo account and sure enough, 2 spam emails a day, it had to be from giving it to free ipods, because no one else knew my address....

speeddude2000
07-05-2004, 05:03 PM
yep...

heres our(me and ludemaster98) plan:

we need to have 5 people(not including me) to be referred and complete an offer(requiring a credit card)...so heres what were gonna do.

step 1: i need u 2 make a NEW yahoo account(the one u gave me wont work....) and DONT sign up for the ipod thing with that account. im gonna "refer" u with that account.

step 2: we need to do that for 4 other people that are willing to use a credit card but not have it charged.

step 3: ill have the "refer 5 friends" part done, and then all i have to do is complete an offer myself.

step 4: well repeat the process for you. we have to make 5 new accounts, and repeat the other steps.

then, with the other guys, well repeat the process again.

i know it sounds complicated, but lets give it a try.

edit: any1 else wanna give it a shot?

emails:

1. Ludemaster98(andy)'s email
2.
3.
4.
5.

I don't know for sure yet. If someone would be willing to give me one more completed signup, I'd know within a few days time (only 1 more to make 5 complete)

No. Many times these links are used to verify a valid email addy. And all you're doing is setting yourself up for more SPAM.

No. Many times these links are used to verify a valid email addy. And all you're doing is setting yourself up for more SPAM.

also, if you suspect spam, dont read the email! these guys are getting smarter and they use image tracking nowadays. so if you open the file, the image will send results to the spammer telling him/her that the addy is valid.

speeddude2000
07-17-2004, 08:46 PM
i will refer your dud email(make a yahoo account or something, cause they will send spam) and 4 other ppls emails. then i gotta sign up for the GM offer myself, and they will ship out the ipod. after this, we will repeat this procedure for every1 else in the "group" so everyone has an iPod or mini iPod.

Noticed (before I typed anything) that the GM application site doesn't have the secure server icon (the little padlock). It asks for your SS# and mother's maiden name. Maybe it's still secure, but I also noticed that the web address in the GM site is still freepods.com.

Has anyone read the agreement that we doubtless have to agree to somewhere in the process to figure out exactly how legit this scheme is?

 I recieved an email ,stating that by taking a survey I would recieve a free Dell laptop ! Well even though I figured it was some kind of scam ,I went ahead and started the process .It asked some ?'s and then asked me to provide the email add of 3 personal contacts , and the survey was "almost over" After suppling then with the email add, it then went to a page with differant offers ,video professor , some magazine subscriptions etc. It said I had to sign up with at least two of the offers before I could recieve my free laptop ! The cost of the offrs would have added up to maybe $100 bucks ,however when it got to the part where iyt wanted a credit card # ,I backed out of the whole deal ,figuring they had already fooled me into giving up some friends email add(sorry), that I was sure some other requirement ,with charges attached to it would pop up. You know the old saying ,"if it sounds to good to be true ,it probably is" You never get something for nothing ,except good advice here at PCMechanic !
Take Care NicRic

unless after the 5 offers are completed it wants it.

Nah this is pretty legit and I know a couple people who have received it.

It doesn't hurt to try and help out other people get ipods anyways. You can always cancel the free offers. ^_^

nope its real...i heard some people actually got their ipods and someone emailed the fbi and they(the fbi) said it was real and not a scam. BUT there is no way in hell im giving out my SS# even if it was a secure server.

I already have 1 completed referral and 6 not complete. I have 3 credit cards with separate billing addresses that I am willing to use with the AOL thing. If someone is willing to sign up with my link and complete an offer I will do the same for them.

My link:
If you are interested, please PM me and let me know what your referral link is. The AOL offer takes approximately 24 hours to register in the system. I will let you know when it has completed and I will sign up as a referral under you.

Thanks!

Well, you have the link for how to get the ipod as well as the directions. This thread is closed now because it is fast becoming a breeding ground for spam on the PCMech forums and about ways and means to work around the schema of what may/may not be a legitimate business entity.
Please use a more private method to exchange your information, one that doesnt involve conversations on the board ;)

Good luck!

We have removed all referral links and reopened the thread. This forum is not to be used for posting referral links. You may discuss the offer only, and any new threads will be removed as spam.
