I am reinstalling office jet drivers. I used the cd that came with the printer. Everything seemed to go fine. The printer shows up in the device manager with no errors and in the Printers & Faxes, it shows up in the "ready" state. When this did'nt work, I went and downloaded the newer drivers... a whopping 60mb. I uninstalled the old ones (following the directions on their site) and installed the new ones. Everything seemed to go great. The printer was unplugged when I installed the new drivers (also, what the instructions said to do) and when I plug everything back in, Windows sees the printer and everything seems great except when I try to print something it always fails. This goes for documents in MS Word, notepad, command prompt, etc.

There seems to be all kinds of problems with these All-in-One printers... any help is greatly appreciated.

I have been struggling with the crap drivers for this line of printers for a long time now.

They don't work well with certain USB chipsets, they don't like anti-virus software, etc...

You might try disabling any A-V realtime scanner and check if your USB chipset is on the HP bad list.

I'll give it a check... would be pretty dumb if an HP computer comes with a chipset that won't work with an HP printer.

That would be if you assume all parts of a large company talk to each other, often one hand has no idea what the other is doing.

Some of the older VIA USB chipsets do not work correctly along with some from Intel and NEC IIRC, I'll see if I can find a link at HP to get you started in your hunt for the truth, it's been a while since I've been there.
