Is there a radeon 9800 pro for laptops?
Nope, as far I know, the best graphics card for mainstream users on laptops are the Mobility Radeon 9700 Pro released last December.
Hope that helps,

so no Radeon 9800 eh? I didn't think I'd ever heard of one either. Some guy is trying to sell me a laptop and he claims it has a 9800 pro in it.
He says its a Sony Vaio PCG-GRZ that he bought with lots of upgrades...

Nope - just looked it up and no such thing as an "ATI Mobility Radeon 9800" or anytype of 9800 that goes for laptops. Here's the link: http://www.ati.com/products/mobile.html
Hope that helps,

yeah I looked at that too. The guy said he bought the laptop 6 months ago and then 1 month ago he bought the card at best buy and they put it in for him.

Here's a pic he sent me of the box:
That's a regular desktop Radeon 9800 XT...I'm not quite sure what he's trying to do, putting a desktop GPU into a laptop - hey miracles can happen :D.

That is a box for a Radeon 9800 XT. You can see on the box, the photo of the AGP card. He certainly does have a 9800xt but it is the desktop card. Any story of a laptop with that card is a lie. Unless he is an incredible modder :p

he says he old one broke and he took the laptop back to best buy (where he bought it) and told them he wanted a 9800 so they sadi sure and put something in and gave him that box. I think I'll let this deal go by...

It sounds like he either has no idea what he is talking about or he is trying to rip you off.

I told him I'd pass. I said the only way I would buy it is if he mailed it to me first and let me check ot out before I pay him. He didn't say no. I told him to keep it in mind if he couldn't sell it and he just said ok.

yeah personally, if i were you i would just forget about that and look other places.
there is no mobile 9800 and by even showing you the box that is obviously for a desktop system, i would say he's trying to rip you off.
if your looking for a kick-ass computer check out alienware and voodoo. they are crazy...so are the prices.

I don't know about that... if he showed you the box, I would think more than anything the guy just doesn't know what he is talking about. If he was trying to rip you off, he would have used photoshop or something to make it look like an ATI Mobility 9800. Good choice to pass on the deal, either way.
