Ive recently been having a problem with my mic and sound interference. The problem is, when I blow into my mic, I can hear it thru my speakers. If I talk or make any other noises nothin, but when I blow in it I can hear it. If anyone has any suggestions or knows what to do to fix this please let me know, thanx.
Im running windows xp.

Control panel > sounds and audio devices > "volume" tab > advanced
Options > properties > check "microphone"
Hit ok, and mute the microphone
That should take care of it.
Also, if you want to put the volume control menu in the task bar:
Control panel > sounds and audio devices > "volume" tab > check "place volume icon in the taskbar"

Just leave it muted when it's not in use.

Im saving up for a personal computer. Would gettinga USB headset have these same effects? I have a normal headset now that goes into the speaker and mic ports and i also have the same problems and have to change those to play my HalfLife mods ^_^.

Im not sure, I just tried plugging my headphones into the speaker port, and instead of only being able to hear blowing/wind, I can hear everything. Now that I think back, I think it might have started happening after I installed new sound drivers, im not sure tho.

Yeah same here. Whatever i say into my mic goes out of my speakers at the exact same time. Thats kinda mostly why im hoping a USB-port headset would backdoor this problem.
