I need help on how to setup 2 onboard nic so that they work together. I have been told that 1 can be setup to transmit and the other to receive. The server has W2K Server on it. Thanks.

Not sure of what you are trying to accomplish doing that, could you explain further?

I see what he's trying to do. Make one nic for upload traffic, the other download.

I think it envolves IP binding, but other than that, I have no idea.

Maybe two Cable lines---> 1 NIC=1337 speed ;)

Or... ok I don't know what else... Is this like a home system and you want to allow all of one NIc to be outgoing, increasing the rate at which the computer would transfer to other computers? Don't really think it works that way if so.

Guess we best just let you explain more

PS-WHile this may be OT, I remember hooking up 2 phone lines and having them go to one comp, wew I was blazzing! That was before my DSL mind you :p

Network adapter teaming and server clustering (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;254101&Product=Win2000Dev)

SUMMARY
There are network adapters and accompanying drivers available from some hardware manufacturers to provide fault tolerance. This technology allows you to group network adapter ports for a connection to a single physical segment. If connectivity through one port is not working, another port is activated automatically. This operation is transparent to the operating system and other devices on the network.

Support for the fault-tolerant technology (the hardware and the drivers) is provided by the hardware manufacturer.

Microsoft support for server clusters with 3rd party system components

Network Adapter Teaming

You can use network adapter teaming (the ability to bind several network adapters in a single logical network card) to provide a highly available network connection to a server. Microsoft supports server cluster configurations that use network adapter teaming on the public interfaces. You must contact the vendor to verify that it has tested the network adapter teaming drivers on a server cluster. Microsoft does not test network adapter teaming configurations, nor does Microsoft provide troubleshooting and debugging for network adapter teaming drivers.

nic = network interface card. it's where you plug your ethernet cable into if you are on a network

This is for a server that has 2 network ports. I heard that they could be configured so that one will transmit and the other will receive. I don't know if I can use the same IP address for both cards or do I have to use two IP addresses or if 3rd party software is needed and if so what software. Please advise.

I think he wants to hook up his DSL/cable/T1 to 1 port and connect the other to a router or firewall.

What makes you think that?

No need to use 2 cards. Just make sure you are using a switch instead of a hub and the single card is set to full duplex. This will let a single card both transmit and receive at full bandwidth simultaneously. The only reason to use multiple cards is fault tolerance.
