I'm rebuilding my old Packard Bell system. I don't know what Mobo it is, pretty sure its an Intel 430VX Chipset though. But after cleaning it out, replacing some parts, and finally putting it back together, its making a buzz when I turn it on. It starts with about a 2 second buzz, followed by 3-4 seconds of silence, and then another 2 second buzz. Could someone tell me what it means? I thought it may be an incorrect jumper somewhere, but I've checked and theyre all set exactly the way they've always been.

It could be a fan rubbing on something. My floppy drive buzzes a couple times during startup. I doubt it's a short because it wouldn't work at all in that case.

If the computer is working fine, I don't think there is probably anything to worry about. The only thing that could cause a buzzing noise would be a moving part, like a drive or a fan as stated by HiHo. I had a fan in an old computer that would do that once in a while. It might just be the 'ol sleve bearing wearing out.

Make sure all the fan screws are tight.
