How to increse signal strength?

I have jumped into the wireless world latley and have been impressed and a lil dissapointed at times. The drawback for me is the signal strength I recieve often when connecting wirelessly. Sometimes it travels low enough to dissconnect. I know there are ways to improve the signal (for a price of course). But because I know so little of wireless networking. I figured I would take this issue to you human databanks. What are all options for incresing signal strength?

If your hardware supports it, you can get external antennae. Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=list&catalog=342&DEPA=0&order=price&sort=asc) has a bunch for you to look at.

What about adding an additional acces point?

Is there any sort of antene or amplifier i can attach right to my router's antene?

Yes, there is. Depending on the type of router, it will probably take SMC or R-TNC connection. You should either check with the manufacturer or most companies that sell the antenna will tell you which adapter works with which.

The antenna is definately the way to go, access points still have to be wired to the router for them to work. Your other option, if you want to wirelessly expand the range of your network, is to look into getting a repeater. But they aren't that common yet, and are fairly expensive.

Just go with the antenna, you won't be disappointed. Make sure you understand what you are getting though, duck, directional, omni-directional, they all mean different things.
