hello all, I've just purchased my first mobo, processor, etc. and in the process of putting it all together, problem is my wife threw away my mobo box and I dont have all my instructions :(
my mobo is a Asus A7N8X and I'm using the AMD 2800 processor.
1)Where do i hook up my heat sink fan....(picture please).
2)using an old case, gonna have a new hard drive 40gb, XP pro operating system, 9800 pro Radion video card, with 512 mb of DDR 400 ram.
thanks
Jackie

Best thing for you to do is visit the Asus website and view the manual for your mobo online. Here

For the standard A7N8X (good choice - I have the A7N8X-X) you can see the manual at: Server Unavailable (Post Later, sorry).

On mine it is a brown? 3 pin plug to the right of the ram, labeled CPU Fan.

Edit: Good one PR, on the global site they are having server problems, that was what I was going to post to.

HTH, sorry no picture.

your fan header should be right next to the 3rd memory socket (the one farthest from the CPU). what kind of power supply are you running with that? you need a power supply from a reputable manufacturer. please read here (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=101151).

I have a antec smart power (ture power or something) 350watt power supply new but I cant see to get it to come on. The green light on mobo is lighting up, but no fan power.... I didnt leave it on but a split second then turned it off I've heard nightmares about frying CPUS without fans coming on....I figured out about the fan being above the 3rd ram and hooked it up for the cpuheatsink no problem there....I'll check the link to the sight thanks

Make sure you have the case power button connected up, turn it on, then if the fan doesn't come on I suspect it needs to be replaced. If you don't like that idea you could try to use a multimeter to test the fan.

Still it isnt working. I did put a meter on the switch that is outside the case and its working (ohm meter with beeper), but could I have it plugged in wrong place on Mobo? I tried to find the manual that I got with the board, I'm still thinking my wife threw it away, ...had the mobo for 6 months now and just got around to buying the CPU, graphics card, and ram!....man I am stumped! Would my power supply send out voltage if I just plugged it in to a wall outlet and measureed it with a multi meter?

finally figured out where the manual was thru panama reds link posted above. Now my control panel is hooked up (bottem of mobo at right) where my reset button and power button tye in. She will turn fan on for a split second (blue light in fan will come on and all) then it just quits, also the fan on the graphics car and fan on heat sink come on for just a split second. I've exhausted all means...! .....my long white power connector to mobo is hooked up, and the power cord is good, power to power supply is 120volts just like it should be, but for some reason something is blocking the power to the drives, fans and everything else???? Help

You should have enough juice, I would try this to see if it is a grounding issue: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=12753

Excellent! Glad ya got all the bugs worked out. Just a tip for future use from one of us Too Organized Types. I keep a manila file folder for each of my computers (4 desktops and 2 laptops). All the manuals and packing slips for the components are kept together in there for future reference. I also have a cheap plastic CD case for each one ($6 at Best Buy) where I keep any software that's installed on that system. I furnish the same CD case with each computer I build for my customers. And my wife NEVER touches my computer stuff! ;) Enjoy your new system.
