scanner problem

I have a computer that I upgraded to windows ME. Before I had windows 98. The problem I am having is with my scanjet 5100c scanner. It worked fine with 98 but with ME the scanner software does not run. I went to the windows web site and updated all of my files and I went to the HP site and downloaded the latest driver for the 5100c. This driver, according to HP, is supposed to allow the scanner to work with ME, but it does not.
What I did was after loading ME, I loaded the software that came with the scanner. Then I went to HP's web site and downloaded the latest drivers and then installed them. But I still cannot get the s/w to run.
Any suggestions ????????????

I checked the instructions again and I did exactly what they said to do. I did not know about WIA. When I installed the software, I do not remember this being an option. I am going to try re-installing the s/w and see if this option comes up.
