I run my Philips 42" plazma as a monitor (yeah, you guys look really HUGE on it!) but I have never figured out how to utilize it's sound system instead of standard computer speakers.

The VGA cable going to the plazma monitor has audio cables with it that end in RCA male plugs. I have them attached to audio in on the monitor but no matter what type of connection I try at the PC end I can't seem to get a signal to the monitor.

I know this is a specialized problem that may even deal with the monitor settings but I'm wondering if there is an electrical compatibility problem (wrong voltages, etc) in signals between the out from the on-board PC audio and the monitor.

HELP!

How are you connecting them? In order to properly connect them you would need a cable like THIS (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F007%5F002%5F003%5F009&product%5Fid=42%2D2542) to plug into the computer. From there you can connect the RCA cables. Then you have to make sure it's pugged into the correct jack on the computer. Without seeing a manual I'd say look in your sound settings and make sure it's set to two speaker sound. Now on the TV end you have to make sure it is hooked up to the correct jacks as well. If you can get a picture of the back of the TV it would help. Also, the TV has to be on the correct video in setting in order for it to work.

That's the cable connection I'm using and the way I was connecting it.

My computer speakers work fine connected to the same jack but I can't get the speakers in the monitor to work from this connection, though the monitor's sound system works fine from every other device that is connected to it.

It sounds like something patched wrong in the monitor itself. I may have to contact Philips since I can't find anything about it in the manual.

I guess you should try contacting them. I don't know what it could be. It should be working the way you have it hooked up.
