CD-ROM help

hi i have an old CD rom which ive had for ages and i want to put a external switch on it.... but with the CD rom it had an auto retract on it in which it retracts after about 3-4 seconds...

question is... can i turn it off so i have to press a button to open and close it...

What kind of CD drive is it?

You may want to take a look at the jumpers.

its a normal creative 48X CD-ROM

there are 2 set of jumpers on the back of the cd rom drive.. 1 for the master, slave etc... and the other has no description on it... ive played around with it and it dont seem to do anything...
