cd-rw problem

my cdrw drive (maddogmultimedia 52x24x52) recieves power and opens but will not play cds or burn them. what is the problem??

I have noticed a new problem in my CD-ROM, sometimes when i boot my computer system, my system does not detect the CD-ROM and to fix this problem i have to restart my computer.

The datacable and power cable are properly connected to my CD-ROM but still i sometimes face this problem.

What could be the main cause of such problem?
