I have a desktop computer with over 60 gig's of music, movies etc. I just bought a laptop and want to copy them over to it. I don't want to burn all of it to DVD's as they are expensive and i don't own an external HD. ALso, i don't have a high-speed internet connection with a router or anything like that. SO i'm thinking my option is this one: Both computers have Firewire and USB2.0, could i drectly connect the two witha crossover cable of somesort and maybe with the help of some cheap/free software copy them over directly?

Thanks !

if both do have a nic (i know you don't have a router) you could get a crossover cat5 networking cable and just network the two together.

from microsoft's windows me page:

To network two or more computers using 1394:

1. Plug a six-pin to six-pin 1394 cable into the 1394 ports of all your computers. Just run the cable from any 1394 port on one computer to any port on the next computer. (You can also use a hub to connect the computers together.)
2. Restart all the computers. The computers then automatically detect the network.

hope that helps
