A friend was downloading a file two weeks ago
and got an error saying the HD was almost full..
every since then his pc boots up real slow...
even after going into msconfig and disabling
everything that was loading....If you try to do
anything before doing the following it takes for-
ever to get it done.
Once it boots completely up....you can hit
control-alt-delete...highlight explorer...click
end task. Then when you get the shutdown box..
click cancel...and then end task when the other
box comes up.
The icons on the desktop flicker and the pc begins
to run as normal.
He says it didnt start this until he got the
HD error.
Have tried all sorts of remedies(including extracting
explorer off the disc and nothing works.
ANY IDEAS?
low level format maybe?

Its a MAXTOR 4.3

THANKS

Just to be safe, boot with a dos disk and run a virus scan.

I would say that the error that he received tells it all. If his hard drive is that full, then his swap file is almost non-existant. This would account for the slow down.

After finally deleting some stuff off the HD
(now have 2.6G free),and re-installing WIN98plus
(overlay),he still has the same problem.Tried
the Service Pack and the Y2K fix....still no help.
Also ran AVG6.0 virus scanner.(clean)

Any more ideas?

Thanks again.
