I know a handful of you guys lucked out and got your DOOM 3 early, but everyone else is having to wait?and I do mean everyone else. You know it is hard to get your hands on DOOM 3 when our pal Christian "XIAN" Antkow from id Software (even being a creator of the game) couldn't get his hands on an early copy of the game!
So, I tried to weasel a copy of DOOM 3 out of the people here locally, and they wouldn't sell it to me until 7pm. I even showed them my business card. "Honest ! We don't have our copies yet ! I wanted to pick up a copy early !!! Yes, I'm really with id Software. Yes, I worked on the game..." Even more frustrating was that StoreX had about 7 copies behind the counter, in plain view, under a big yellow "It's Here !" sign... So close... yet so far away.

and why can't he just compile a finished copy of the game from the office?

Imagine how annoyed he was while he was pleading with the shop staff and the game was just staring at him from behind the counter.

They should release it right away. Just a few days ago it became available on file trading networks. They should let people buy it who are not patient enough to wait and may end up downloading it. I will have to play the game using my imagination and screenshots as I don't have the hardware to handle it.

You can get a copy on ebay.

by making them wait, its just encouraging downloading. why wait when they can get it instantly.

Three CD-ROMs of monster killin' goodness.
I am tingly all over.

It can take hours or even days to compile something this complex.

Hard to believe that they don't have any finished builds around the office but funny story none-the-less.

i wouldnt be surprised if they divided the work into seperate groups so that its harder for 1 of them to release it secretly to the web. i mean, if you only have part of it, you arent gonna be able to spoil it.

But you have to have all parts to test it. id is what, 12 or 16 ppl? It can't be too hard to get a final build from everyone.
'I worked on the game'
i didn't read the article, but surely that doesn't make him 'the creator' just a lowly programmer or something.
'i wouldnt be surprised if they divided the work into seperate groups so that its harder for 1 of them to release it secretly to the web'
for some reason that reminds me of the thing how only 2 guys know the formula for coca cola and they're not allowed to travel together.. it'd be a shame if they both died in an earthquake or something.
'They should let people buy it who are not patient enough to wait and may end up downloading it.'
time to upload it, < 1 hour. time to print 1000's of CDs and distribute them across the USA/world.. > 1 hour. see the probleem? although i see the point about when they have it in store and wont sell it until X o'clock.
'You can get a copy on ebay.'
unless its been avaiable for ages, surely it'd take longer to ship it that it would to wait a few hours and buy one.
