the vid card, i just read a thread on here and they say that the 5900XT will out perform the 9800pro/xt on any given day! and! it's cheaper than the 9800 pro im planning to buy for my comp. . . .im gonna use the computer mainly to play halo2, doom3, and games such as those and try oc'ing (mainly oc'ing). wht vid card do you guys suggest that will allow me to play those games on the highest settings and at the same time is extremely (verry extrememly) oc friendly. and by friendly i mean that it will allow me to achieve extremely (by that cards standard) high clock rates.
thanks :)

I beg to differ - actually the exact opposite. On many games, the Radeon 9800 Pro will beat the FX5900XT on any give day! Though I understand benchmarks only give a indictation of the real performance of the game being played, almost all of them show the Radeon 9800 Pro beating out the FX5900/5900Ultra. Generally speaking, if you're wanting to go nVidia, I'd recommend skipping the FX series all together. It has been a rather disappointing line as compared to the ATI Radeon series during that time.
Hope that helps,

Also, looking at my post, it's seemingly biased as I forgot one statement. The performance of the card depends on the condition under which it is played. For example, in Doom 3, the nVidia FX series might show a slight edge over some of the Radeon cards. However, in games like FarCry, the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro shows a distinct edge over the nVidia GeForce FX 5900/5900XT. nVidia's edge comes at OpenGL games, while ATI is rock solid on Direct3D games.

I heard that you probably don't want to overclock if you play doom 3.

Sorry - haven't looked at your build yet. But graphics wise, I might agree with Tin Canary - the Doom3 benchmarks show FX5900 series beating out the Radeon 9800s. As he mentioned, Doom3 is an OpenGL based game. I am playing Doom 3 on the Radeon 9800 Pro right now and I think it runs fine - good frame rates, amazing texture, creank up AA and it yield strellar graphics :D. Half-Life2...that might be a different story as it is D3D based.
