I posted recentley in another forum about low system resources. GLC and others pointed out that I may have a virus...well..rans online housecall and man, I have a few T's. But I have the same few but in multiple files. The scan tells me they are non cleanable.
Here they are:
troj_strtpage.RN
troj_pouter.A
troj_agent.Z2
troj_winshow.AB
troj_agent.AU
troj_winshow.G
troj_agent.AE
troj_agent.AR
troj_Icool.A
HTML_adver.A
Right now I have about 485 infected files and it's still scanning.it's all >exe, .dat,.dll, files...all through the windows system and windows files.
is there any easy fix to this??

My word, MAN!
Well here is the deal. You can go to symantecs website and find every registry key and get rid of that junk. Find some program to do it for you. Or backup and format that hard-drive, haha. Wow...
Thats alot of infected files...

The thing to remember is that even though you are finding a lot of infected files, the majority or even all of them, can be the trojans themselves. This, as opposed to the infected files being YOUR exe files.
So, at the end of the scan, check out the Symantec pages in regard to each infection, and see the files involved.
And, now that you have experienced this, either acquire an antivirus OR start running the one you have installed continuously in the background. Viruses are meant to be detected on the way in, not after they have infected your PC.
Your other post mentions that you run ZoneAlarm. This will NOT stop them from getting in, BUT you should have seen every one of them ask for access to the internet. Check the programs tab and see if they have been allowed or not. This would have been your first clue that you were infected.

"Trendco"? Who's that?
A good free anti-virus is AVG by Grisoft.
A good for-pay anti-virus it NOD32.
You can also scan with FProt from DOS so that Windows is out of the picture.

Toolman, were you refering to TrendMicro perhaps? If so, that is a good online scan to use. www.trendmicro.com (http://www.trendmicro.com)

Ok guys. I closed my eyes and deleted everything that was showing in the box on housecall scan. After reboot I saw a black box come up and started scrolling through a bunch of files...I seen the name "worm and trojan" in that list. But when all sais and done I did another scan with house call and came up clean. I also downloaded the updated adwareSE and it found 396 entries that the other adware6 didn't. I won't hold my breath that all is gone. I keep waiting for this thing to crash. I sure do appreciate all the help .
Thanks
Tim

To be able to reinstall Norton 2004, see the instructions on their website: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/5e19e84a28547fe188256d4e006aaa95/17860c53807a900788256da500800c03?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam
[you just need to edit a registry value]
If your Internet connection is broadband, you really want to consider acquiring and installing a firewall (dangerous enough nowadays = you can even use both a hardware firewall and a software firewall) - along with updating your antivirus/antispyware programs. You mention Adware6 - are you referring to AdAware 6 by Lavasoft? That is one of the better ones. Some "sound-alike" imitators are floating around the net, which actually install even more spyware. SpyBot Search&Destroy is another good program, which gets along well with AdAware. Many folks use both (I do), as well as other tools such as HiJackThis and the CWShredder tools for the hard-to-remove "Cool Web Search" spyware.
