Check your local Staples, Office Depot, Costco, OfficeMax, or Wal-Mart. All of those stores often have good deals on decent monitors. It is usually better to buy locally if you are on a budget because shipping costs from buying online can be high.
I agree with Hi Ho. Besides the issue of shipping costs, when it comes to monitors it is always best to inspect the product first before you buy it...it IS the part of the computer you have the most contact with, isn't it? :)
Plus, buying locally reduces the headache of getting a refund for a broken purchase.
I don't think you can go wrong with an inexpensive NEC or Viewsonic model CRT. If you are willing to exert a little effort to save a few bucks then you might also want to check your local classified ads.

Other good, inexpensive brands include Samsung, Mag, Envision, KDS, CTX, and CTL. I have an Arcus monitor on my other computer that I have been very happy with. The picture is very good and it has worked fine for four years now.
It's wonderful how inexpensive good monitors have become in the past few years. Personally, I prefer CRT monitors...so as long as the LCD market continues to bloom, my dreams for a nice inexpensive 19 or 20" monitor will eventually reach reality.
Now...if I can only get my hands on a swank AGP card....
:)

There are only a few companies that actually make tubes. I believe Sony, Samsung, and maybe NEC are included on that list along with a few others.
